1952: the beginning of a family story

It is 1952 when Basilico Fermo and Rebolini Pinuccia open the doors of their small grocery store on Via Petrarca on a piece of land purchased a few years earlier. The shop sells canned goods, bread, cold cuts, and, with the addition of evening mass services in the nearby sanctuary, it also becomes a small bar. The business is immediately set up as a collective effort by the entire family, who live on the first floor of the store. The business does not undergo significant changes until the early 1960s, when their son Carluccio, along with his brother Daniele and sister Marialuisa, expand the business by adding the current bar and lounge area, both downstairs and upstairs: thus, they start the trattoria, expanding the kitchen staff and also incorporating Giuseppe Villa, who will marry Marialuisa shortly thereafter. Initially, the trattoria alternates between "à la carte" service and renting out spaces for parties and small receptions, relying on the kitchen, in cases, as the latter only for the preparation of cold cuts and drinks.

The expansion and innovation between the '70s and '90s

In the 1970s, a sharp change of direction occurred. La Madonnina became a restaurant and started managing events in-house, paving the way for the following decade. It was particularly Carluccio, along with his partner Enea and his brother Daniele, the restaurant's chefs, who continuously innovated the service, the food, and the appearance of the restaurant. Carluccio was the link from the trendiest realities of the capital to the rural restaurant, so La Madonnina had a make-over, expanded its spaces, and refined the decor, dedicating areas to relax, unifying and updating the table setting services, and opening an outdoor seating area on the rear terrace. In the early '90s, following Carluccio's death, Maria Luisa's two sons, Massimo and Giovanni, along with their mother, took over the business and soon after started offering their first catering services.

The Madonnina today: quality, territory, and the new generation

During the early 2000s, La Madonnina increasingly carved out space in the industry and continuously refined its business, further renovating the restaurant on Via Petrarca with the construction of a garden, a covered terrace, and also defining "satellite" spaces related to the restaurant, such as the logistics and cooking center. In 2008 it fully launched into the wedding sector in the locations of the province of Varese, leading, over the following ten years, to La Madonnina becoming a renowned entity in the area for its catering service, especially in weddings. To this day, La Madonnina continues to carry out the activities of the Restaurant in parallel with that of the catering, solidifying both sectors with techniques and spaces that are constantly being updated, preparing the fourth and future generation of restaurateurs and entrepreneurs so that the business may continue to grow, always seeking quality and integrating more and more into the macro-regional context of the sector.
